“Trainees at Ince are given responsibility from an early stage. On my first day as a trainee I joined a team working on a multi-million dollar dispute relating to an oil well explosion in
As there are no rigid departments, you pick up a diverse case load from across the firm's practice areas, meaning you get a wide range of experience and learn to manage your own workload and time very quickly. Support is always available if you need it, but ultimately it's up to you to develop your role in the firm and prove your capabilities. Although that's sometimes a challenge, it's also very rewarding."

“Once you’re given a case, it’s yours until conclusion. You don’t put down your pen and move on to a new area of law every six months. I’m working on a case at the moment that I’ve had for nearly two years. All of this means that by the end of your training, you’ve been able to build up expertise in certain areas.
You’re exposed to the law from day one. I’ve been to Court hearings, drafted submissions and correspondence with opponents, met a lot of clients and attended settlement meetings.
I’ve been able to develop a varied workload. I’m keen to focus on shipping, international trade and business and finance, although my case load at the moment comprises about 60% insurance, so it’s still very broad.
You get to work on high profile cases and, with some of my cases, it’s just me and a partner. Obviously, anything that goes out is vetted by the partner, but I’m the one handling it on a daily basis. You find yourself coming up against people with more experience than you who are surprised when they realise that you are a trainee.”
