Accident Aboard Pipe Laying Vessel

We were able to settle on satisfactory terms the loss of life and personal injury claims. The contractor's liability to the client for delayed completion of the pipeline was restricted to liquidated damages only, avoiding significant claims for loss of profit and production.

Ince was appointed by the contractor and their insurers to advise on the various claims, the shutdown of the operation and dealings with the contractor's client. Disputes between the client and the contractor were referred to arbitration in London.

During operations to install a deepwater pipeline, a system failure aboard a pipe-laying vessel in the Gulf of Guinea resulted in pipe sections falling onto the deck. The contractor who owned and operated the vessel sustained huge losses including multiple loss of life and injuries along with damage to the vessel. This resulted in significant delays to the project.
