Insurance & Reinsurance
The majority of Joe's caseload is insurance-based, primarily focussed on advising insurers in relation to coverage issues and disputed claims arising in the marine and energy sectors. His extensive experience in marine insurance spans hull & machinery, builders' risks, P&I, cargo, loss of hire and marine liabilities and Joe's expertise has been noted:
"very knowledgeable on all marine matters, with a good understanding of how the market works." Legal 500 UK 2011
In the onshore and offshore energy sectors, he has been instructed in relation to claims arising under oil major package policies, Contractors' All Risks (CAR) policies and Business Interruption (BI) covers.
Joe has a specialist international trade practice. He acts for traders and banks as well as end-users, the latter primarily engaged in the power generation industry. As such, he has particular expertise in fossil fuels and solid biofuels. He handles both non-contentious and contentious matters arising under sale and supply contracts. His approach is to try to assist his clients in avoiding disputes and to seek, where possible, early resolution through negotiation and mediation of such disputes that are unavoidable. He has extensive experience of the litigation and arbitration processes, which he is ready to deploy where commercial resolution cannot be achieved, and resort to legal proceedings is necessary.
