Solange is a Managing Associate with the EU and Competition Law team. She specialises in EU and competition law and advises on a wide range of competition law issues from competition law compliance of commercial agreements, joint ventures and business practices (including EU compliance training), to cartel defence, merger advice, regulatory matters, state aid and public procurement. Solange has significant experienced in EU litigation before the European Commission and National Competition Authorities, particularly in cartel proceedings and actions for damages in cartel cases.

Solange has also acquired particular expertise in dealing with competition law issues in the aviation and maritime sectors as well as relevant expertise in the energy and insurance sectors.

Solange is qualified both as a Solicitor of England and Wales and as Lawyer with the Portuguese Bar Association. She is also a member of the European Air Law Association and the European Maritime Law Organisation. Solange is an appointed Air law instructor (“EU Antitrust / Competition law courses) for the IATA Training and Development Institute (ITDI).

She holds a LL.M in European Legal Studies from the College of Europe, Bruges (Belgium) and a law degree from the University of Coimbra (Portugal), which included an Erasmus exchange programme with the University of Poitiers (France). 

Solange has published several articles on EU competition law matters. She has also been co-editing the UK/EU competition section of Shawcross and Beaumont: Air Law, Butterworths (LexisNexis). She has co-authored the chapter 'Cooperative Agreements in the Aviation Sector and EU Competition Law', From Lowlands to High Skies: A Multilevel Jurisdictional Approach Towards Air law, Essays in Honour of John Balfour, Martinus Nijhoff (15 Oct 2013 and the article 'State Aid in The Airline Sector: a change in focus' (co-authored with John Balfour) EStAL 2/2011. She contributed to the Portuguese edition of a Commentary to the Lisbon Treaty ‘Tratado de Lisboa Anotado e Comentado, Comentarista, Edição 2012, Almedina’.
