Shipping

Ian is a member of Ince’s international emergency response team, attending casualties worldwide, including total losses. His practice embraces the wet and dry aspects of loss, investigating and dealing with casualties and the contractual disputes that arise from them, including collisions, pollution, salvage, and the claims that flow from cargo damage, delay and loss. He also investigates and advises on MARPOL violations.

Ian is known for his practical and measured approach in the emotive environment that characterises the immediate aftermath of a casualty. He acts predominantly for shipowners, shipmanagers and their insurers.

He lectures and writes on litigation risk management, seaworthiness, ISM’s legal aspects, claims management and crisis management.

Insurance & Reinsurance

Ian investigates and advises on hull and machinery matters including engineering issues and bunker damage disputes, drawing on his practical experience as a mariner, shipmanager and lead auditor.
